Admissions Counselor

Job Summary
Sweet Briar College is experiencing exciting growth, and the Department of Enrollment
Management is seeking a full-time Admissions Counselor to join our team. Admissions
Counselors are prospective students' first point of contact and play a vital role in shaping their
Sweet Briar experience. We’re seeking dynamic, engaging individuals who excel at building
meaningful relationships and are passionate about higher education and its transformative
potential.
Position Type/Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time, onsite role, Monday through Friday, with flexibility for events and special
projects during evenings and weekends as needed. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
Essential Responsibilities
Recruit prospective students for enrollment at Sweet Briar.
Build and cultivate relationships with students and families via phone, text, email, and
person.
Deliver informational sessions for prospective students, parents, and high school
counselors.
Develop relationships with secondary school personnel, professional organizations,
alumnae, and other stakeholders.
Conduct consultative admissions interviews to understand students’ motivations, career
goals, and potential obstacles, helping them identify the best-fit academic program.
Present tailored information on Sweet Briar’s educational benefits.
Guide prospective students through admissions, including linking them to financial aid
and other resources.
Maintain consistent communication with prospective students using SLATE and other
methods.
Attend on-campus events such as open houses, scholarship days, and accepted student
events.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in customer service, marketing, sales, or related fields.
Valid driver’s license and insurability.
Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Knowledge of marketing strategies and experience with data-driven decision-making.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
Commitment to teamwork, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Passion for educating and empowering young women and the College's long-term
sustainability.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based, with occasional outdoor exposure for events.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of computer use and walking across campus.
Ability to lift to 20 pounds.
Travel
Occasional travel for outreach, professional development, and other needs.
